Checked 5 August 2026 · Indian Visa Online

Submitted as a file · indianvisaonline.gov.in

Nothing is uploaded because nothing needs to be. Cropping happens on a canvas in your browser, and the background is removed by a neural network that downloads to your device and runs there. The only thing that travels is the model coming down — your photo never leaves the tab, and the source code is public so this can be checked rather than believed.

Frequently asked

What size is a India e-Visa photo, in cm and inches?

⁦51 × 51⁩ mm, which is ⁦5.1 × 5.1⁩ cm or ⁦2 × 2⁩ inches. Those are the same photo stated three ways; use whichever unit the form in front of you asks for.

What size is a India e-Visa photo in pixels?

⁦600 × 600⁩ pixels, which is 300 dpi at the print size. Anything smaller will look soft when printed.

What background colour does a India e-Visa photo need?

White, plain and evenly lit, with no shadow behind the head. The tool can replace the background for you if the wall behind you is not right.

What file format and size does a India e-Visa photo need?

JPEG, no larger than 1000 KB. The export here compresses to stay under that limit without dropping below the required resolution.

How many copies of a India e-Visa photo fit on one sheet?

2 photos of ⁦51 × 51⁩ mm on an A4 sheet. Print at 100 % scale, never "fit to page".

India e-Visa photo: uploaded, or handed over printed?

Submitted as a file. indianvisaonline.gov.in.

Can a India e-Visa photo be taken in a hijab, turban or other head covering?

Yes. A covering worn every day for religious reasons is accepted; an ordinary hat is not. The face has to be visible from the bottom of the chin to the forehead, both edges of the face have to show, and nothing may cast a shadow across it. Keep the fabric plain and unpatterned, and pick a colour that stands apart from the background — a white covering on a white background merges into it, which is the rejection Canada and Türkiye both warn about by name. The palette here can set a background that contrasts.

indianvisaonline.gov.in: the photo will not upload, or comes back rejected — why?

indianvisaonline.gov.in refuses anything that is not JPEG, anything above 1000 KB, and anything smaller than ⁦600 × 600⁩ pixels. Exporting here keeps all three inside the limits. If the file is within spec and the site still errors, that is their service, not your photo.

Paste the prompt into any AI assistant and it has everything it needs: the exact numbers, the page they came from and the source they were checked against. The full spec is the longer reference version.

Reference information, not immigration advice. An application is filled in and signed by the applicant.
